Jaime Velez of Skidmore, Owings, Merrill, LLP Principle, Interiors Chicago designed Formica Corporate headquarters, which was actually a small project. Presently, he is completing work on the tallest building in the world, the Burj Dubai (2009). International projects around the world include the BankBoston Corporate Headquarters, Sao Paulo and Law Offices interiors in Sir Norman Foster’s iconic London Gherkin building.
For his Dancing Line chair design, Jaime also choice ColorCore2 in New White with added textural interest of the MicroDot finish. Laurinda wove the material, Jaime showcased the new technical feature of post forming to very tight radiuses. For those of you familiar with the original version of ColorCore, the material was not very flexible. Post forming is a term in laminate where you can heat the surfacing material to bend the material for unique or simple rounded features.
This beautiful, simple structure was praised by the art critiques for being one of the most elegant designs. Jaime Velez is a corporate designer, so his chair sold for $15,000.
