David Trubridge has worked in the design industry for over 40 years. During that time, he has notched up numerous accolades including being named by a French magazine as one of the top 15 designers in the world. In 2007, he was given New Zealand’s highest design award – the John Britten Award – by the Designer’s Institute of New Zealand and in 2014 he was recognised by Australia’s InDesign magazine as a ‘design luminary’ and was described as “a man who has changed the face of design in New Zealand.”
Ron Sang has practiced architecture for nearly 50 years. He was elected a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) in 1986 and is director of Sang Architects & Co Ltd, Ron Sang Publications and the Ron Sang Gallery.
In 2001, Mr Sang was awarded the inaugural NZIA Enduring Architecture Award for the Brian Brake house in Titirangi, Auckland. He is an active member of the Auckland Art Gallery Board and a patron of the Friends of The Auckland Art Gallery.
His career has also extended into publishing where he has published books on leading New Zealand artists: Michael Smither, Ralph Hotere, John Drawbridge, Guy Ngan, Pat Hanly, Greer Twiss, Robert Ellis and Mervyn Williams. His book: Len Castle, Potter won the illustrative category of the 2003 Montana Book Awards and his book Pat Hanly won the Illustrative Non-Fiction category of the 2013 NZ Post Book Awards.
His services to art and architecture were recognised in 2000 with his appointment as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Renee Hytry Derrington is the Fletcher Building, Laminates & Panels Formica brand & Laminex brand, US-based Vice President of Design. Renee is responsible for leading design teams in Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Europe and North America, overseeing new design development of surfacing products which include high pressure/low pressure laminates, solid surfacing, wood and metal laminates destined for global and local markets.
Renee has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Wisconsin and a Masters in Industrial Design-Management & Planning from The Ohio State University. She was a past Board Director for Colour Marketing Group – the premier international association for colour design professionals. In 2008, she was presented with the President’s Award in recognition of her role in expanding the Group’s international activities in Asia, Europe and South America. Renee gives trend presentations to design groups around the world. She was also instrumental in initiating an event in the USA where world-renowned architects were invited to design a limited collection of furniture, using Formica laminates and solid surface materials. The Formica Formations Competition is based on this concept.
